A fundamental human entitlement is the right to good oral health,which is crucial to overall health. General health and oral health are interrelated. Knowing a few things about getting older is crucial for maintaining health. As people age, their body tissues become harder, waste accumulates in their cells, and lubrication decreases, impairing the ability of numerous organs to function properly.Aging process and accumulation of their dental needs from younger age lead to many oral health issues in elderly population.The rapidly expanding proportion of India's elderly population and the Quality of life of elderly people was largely affected by poor oral health which present distinct issues for the oral health specialists to consider and examine them.Awareness about the age related changes in the orofacial region among the elderly population is vital to maintain oral health as well as the general health. As a dentist, its his\her immense responsibility to know about the elderly patients'need and act accordingly. Still there is no evidence of Government policies for oral health care of elderly people

This study evaluates the influence of different loading angles and the area of loading on the ensuing stress distribution and the physical response of a natural central incisor tooth, using a 3D finite element analysis. The CAD model of the incisor tooth assembly (including enamel, dentin, periodontal ligament, pulp, gingiva and jaw bone) was subject to an external (chewing) load of 100 N, over four different areas and at four different angles along the vertical. It was observed that the tooth experiences high von-Mises equivalent stresses and high bending when the load applied is closer to the incisal edge of the crown. Also, the stresses on the dentin, in general, increased with the increase in the loading angle regardless of the area of loading; with the highest stress (~70 MPa) generated at 45° angle. The percentage change observed in dentin von-Mises stresses was higher than that of enamel when the loading angle was increased from 0° to 45°, because of the higher stiffness of enamel and structural differences in enamel and dentin. The numerical results indicated that applying loads on incisal edge would simulate a severe loading condition for the incisor tooth.

Quantifying the potential of morphological parameters for human dental identification: part 3—selecting the strongest skeletal identifiers in the mandible

The current study aimed to select the best mandibular morphological identifiers.One hundred eighty-five panoramic radiographs were retrospectively collected, in which four landmarks were located on the mandible: the most superior point of the condyle right/left (CONR/L), of the coronoid right/left (CORR/L), of the mandibular lingula right/left (LINR/L), and the most mesial point of the mental foramen right/left (MMFR/L). Five linear measurements, 6 angles and 10 ratios were measured bilaterally. Three groups of statistics were considered: (1) mean potential set; (2) inter-observer agreement quantified by intra-class correlation (ICC) and within-subject coefficient of variation (WSCV); (3) Spearman correlation. Parameters were selected for a step-by-step cascade.In a univariate approach, the following parameters proved to have the best identifying capacity: ratio 3 right (between lines CONR -CORR and LINR -MMFR) with mean potential set 13%, ICC 0.90, WSCV 4.8%; ratio 4 (between lines CONR/L -CORR/L and MMFR -MMFL) with mean potential set 13%, ICC 0.92, WSCV 8.9%; and angle 4 left (between landmarks LINL, MMFL and MMFR) with mean potential set of 18%, ICC 0.91, WSCV 1.2%. The correlation coefficients ranged from 0.01 to 0.33. In a multivariate approach, the identifying capacity improved drastically, with all ratios combined as the strongest identifier (mean potential set 1.29%).In conclusion, a single ratio or a single angle already narrows down the set of potential matches, but the mean potential set remains relatively large. Combining all ratios drastically increases the certainty of the match.
