Unicompartmental knee replacements with Miller-Galante prosthesis: Two to 16-year follow-up of a single surgeon series

Abstract: We report the outcome of 94 Miller-Galante unicompartmental knee replacements done by a single surgeon over 16 years in a district general hospital in the UK. Patellofemoral arthritis was considered a contraindication only if symptomatic and confirmed on radiography and surgery. Deformity when present was correctable. The mean age at surgery was 66.54 years. The mean followup was 10.8 years (2-16 years). The mean Bristol knee score was 43.1 (28-50); 86% of the patients had good or excellent scores. The average… Show more

“…Overall survival with revision as end point of 92.1% (95% CI: 81.3 to 100) at eight years is comparable with that of other forms of UKR, 20,21 and better than that reported for the previous version of our design. 5 The advantages of UKR over TKR include the maintenance of normal knee kinematics, a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery.…”

“…Pennington implants [31]. 94% of the same implants done by a single surgeon survived with a mean age at surgery of 66.54 years [32]. 10-year cumulative revision rates of approximately 12-13.5 % and 11.78 % (CI 95% 11.80-13.34) were reported for fixed bearing UKR in the 2014 Swedish Knee Arthroplasty Register (SKAR) and the 11 th annual report of the National Joint Registry England and Wales (NJR) respectively.…”

“…Details on study identification, inclusion, and exclusion are summarized in Fig 1. This process eventually resulted in eight studies in the final meta-analysis. [7,[12][13][14][15][16][17][18] An electronic search yielded 614 studies in PubMed (MEDLINE), 724 in EMBASE, 700 in Web of Science, 745 in SCOPUS, and 35 in the Cochrane Library. Fifteen additional publications were identified through manual searching.…”
