Uniaxial Dynamic Compressive Behaviors of Hydraulic Asphalt Concrete under the Coupling Effect between Temperature and Strain Rate

Abstract: To investigate the compressive dynamic properties of hydraulic asphalt concrete under various temperatures, four temperatures and four strain rates have been set to perform the uniaxial compression experiments using hydraulic servo machine in this paper. The influence of temperature and strain rate on the failure modes, stress-strain curves and mechanical characteristic parameters of hydraulic asphalt concrete is analyzed and the results reveal that the failure modes and stress-strain curves have significant t… Show more

“…The asphalt concrete impermeable layer is usually regarded as the most important structural layer, which requires good anti-seepage, thermal and water stability, crack resistance, durability and workability during construction [ 3 , 4 ]. The selection of raw material and the mix design of the dense-graded asphalt concrete thus become very important, since they are closely related to the above functions and the performance of the impermeable layer [ 5 , 6 ].…”

“…The asphalt concrete core is usually positioned in the central region of the embankment dam and protected by the embankment on the sides [8]. As a result, the environmental conditions in that area remain relatively stable.…”

“…Static loads include structural deadweight, water pressure, and the weight of structural attachments and equipment. Dynamic loads, however, incorporate earthquakes, wind loads, and water strikes [8], especially in ACEDs located in an earthquake-prone area. Additionally, the dynamic properties of HAC are related to various factors, including internal factors, such as asphalt content and asphalt mixture gradation, and external factors, such as temperatures, principal stress ratios, and confining pressures.…”
