RÉSUMÉ. Description de femelles juvéniles appartenant à un nouveau genre et une nouvelle espèce de la famille des Benthimermithidae, Adenodelphis eurythenes n. g., n. sp., parasites de la cavité générale de l'Amphipode Eurythenes gryllus dans les sédiments abyssaux de la Mer de Norvège. Le genre est caractérisé principalement par la présence de glandes annexes échelonnées le long du tiers proximal des utérus.Description of a new genus of Benthimermithidae (Nematoda) with unusual uterine glands. Ces Nématodes sont repliés dans la cavité générale de l'Amphipode, entourant le tube digestif ; la plupart des Amphipodes ne sont parasités que par un seul Néma tode, mais certains en possèdent plusieurs et l'un d'entre eux en contenait 8.Il s'agit uniquement de femelles juvéniles appartenant à la famille des Benthi mermithidae, mais qui présentent quelques structures tout à fait particulières que nous décrivons ici.

Are juveniles of the enigmatic deep-sea nematode Rhaptothyreus (Rhaptothyreida: Rhaptothyreidae) parasitic?

Abstract.Rhaptothyreus is arguably the most enigmatic nematode taxon due to a combination of unusual morphological features (e.g., large feather-like amphids, vestigial mouth, trophosome, single spicule), unclear phylogenetic relationships (possible affinities with the Enoplida, Mermithida and Benthimermithida) and a distribution restricted to the deep sea. Here I provide the first record of the genus in the Western Pacific Ocean and describe new morphological features of a moulting juvenile. This specimen is characterised by features that differ markedly from those of the adults, the most prominent being the absence of cephalic sensillae and amphids and the presence of a stylet-like structure in the buccal cavity. Similar contrasts in morphology are found between adults and juveniles of the order Benthimermithida, which is characterised by free-living adults and parasitic juveniles. Other morphological (large body size, presence of trophosome) and distributional characteristics (predominantly deep-sea distribution, juveniles rare / absent in sediments) are also common to both groups. Published records show that Rhaptothyreus is commonly found in oligotrophic environments (e.g., abyssal plain) where organisms bearing symbiotic bacteria are not typically found, which makes the presence of endosymbiotic bacteria inside the trophosome unlikely. These observations are consistent with the existence of a parasitic juvenile life stage in Rhaptothyreus.

Some new species of Benthimermis Petter, 1980 (Benthimermithidae, Nematoda) from the South Indian Ocean.Six new species of Benthimermis collected from the shallows of the Crozet-Prince Edward ridge (South Indian Ocean) are described. Benthimermis australis n.sp. is the first species in the genus of which both male and female are known; the male differs from previously described males in lacking cervical alae as well as a cuticular ring-like thickening around the amphids; the female is characterized by a rounded tail with a thick mucron and with a cuticular thickening at its end. Benthimermis crozetensis n.sp., of which only the male is known, resembles B. breviptera in the form of the cervical alae and reproductive system, but is distinguished by the length of the cervical alae and tail, and the diameter of the anterior vas deferens. The following four species are known only by their females: B. hureaui n.sp. is distinguished by a short conical tail; B. edouardensis n.sp. is distinguished by a tail with a long terminal spike bearing refringment granules; B. marionensis n.sp. and B. arnaudi n.sp. are characterized by a short round tail without a cuticular thickening at its end and are distinguished from one another by the length of the ovaries.These species are the first in the Benthimermithidae which have been found in relatively shallow sediments (between 90 and 980 m).Keys to males and females of the genus Benthimermis are given. ac]19820408.
