“…It is observed that research on logistics outsourcing has received attention in literature over the years and is growing, given the number of past and recent publications. The interest in logistics outsourcing research indicates how important the sector is to shippers, especially from a sustainability perspective and as a way of organizing the movement of goods in an efficient manner across supply chains, as also claimed by [72]. However, limited studies have tried to identify the common elements of logistics outsourcing from a technology and sustainability perspective.…”

“…Further, both came to the conclusion that cost-driven outsourcing is dominant when performance is considered. This research stream has continued to flourish, for example, Modaress et al (2016), Nyameboame and Haddud (2017); and Akter et al (2019) have since received similar results in different contexts. Akter et al (2019) study among other things the impact of 3PL logistics outsourcing on performance, reporting that over 75% have experienced positive and just 13% of firms negative impacts on logistics costs.…”

“…Our proposed blockchain-based system is crucial for stakeholders’ ability to reap the benefits of this transformation without risking a loss of information. Particularly those at the centre of the supply chain, such as carriers and ECU Worldwide, will see vast gains through digitization, whereas smaller entities further up and downstream need additional incentives to join (Akter et al , 2019). Reallocation of benefits might thus be necessary to contemplate when introducing a blockchain-based system.…”
