Understanding the self-polymerization mechanism of dopamine by molecular simulation and applying dopamine surface modification to improve the interfacial adhesion of polyimide fibers with epoxy resin matrix

Abstract: The object of this paper is to interpret the self-polymerization mechanism of dopamine by molecular simulation and use dopamine polymerization to modify the surface properties of polyimide fibers for improving its interfacial adhesion strength with the epoxy resin matrix. Theoretically, the molecular simulation results of calculated energy band gaps and infrared spectrum of the intermediate products generated in the dopamine self-polymerization process confirmed that the spontaneity of self-polymerization of d… Show more

“…1d ). Then, the self-polymerization of DA monomers occurs via the intramolecular cyclization and intermolecular polymerization 27 . The formed PDA layer acts as a secondary platform to improve the interfacial adhesion interactions between the dielectric substrate and printed Ti 3 C 2 film, contributing the conformal integrated Ti 3 C 2 antennas with the high spatial uniformity and mechanical flexibility (Fig.…”

“…Characteristic peaks at 1600 cm −1 and 1510 cm −1 are indicative of N–H vibrations of amines. 59 Hydroxyl and N–H bonds in the catechol groups are recognized by a broad peak between 3200 and 3500 cm −1 . 60 PDA polymerization involves several complex steps including oxidation, cyclization, and re-arrangement of the Dopa-HCl molecule.…”

“…Additionally, peaks around 1140 cm –1 occur in G‐DA and G‐OKG‐DA curves, suggesting the generated 5,6‐dihydroxyindole (DHI) during DA polymerization. [ 24 ] Generally, DA can be oxidized to 5,6‐DHI in an alkaline environment. Subsequently, DHI will undergo covalent oxidative polymerization, leading to the formation of polydopamine.…”
