Understanding the role of single‐board computers in engineering and computer science education: A systematic literature review

Abstract: In the last decade, single‐board computers (SBCs) have been employed more frequently in engineering and computer science (CS) at both technical and educational levels. These devices are of importance to educators and students due to several factors such as the versatility, the low cost, and the possibility to enhance the learning process through technology. However, the implications, possibilities, and constraints of these devices in engineering and CS education have not been explored in detail. In this system… Show more

“…These technologies can help identify product batches and be used for automated shipping and storage, avoiding input errors [ 38 ]. Single-board computers have a small form factor, high flexibility, ultra-ruggedness, and excellent performance [ 39 ] (R1). As such, they can monitor temperature, brightness, PH, or other physical units and use actuators to modify physical objects, such as turning on a sprinkler switch when a temperature set-point is reached.…”

“…Gestaltism did not emerge as a pedagogical method such as constructivism (Ariza & Baez, 2022 ; Asoodar et al., 2014 ), Paulo Freire’s pedagogy (Giroux, 2010 ), or Skinner’s behaviorism (Watters, 2021 ). It is a theory of psychology that emerges as a reaction to associationism, combating the idea of fragmentation of perception.…”
