Understanding the mechanisms underlying obesity in remodeling the breast tumor immune microenvironment: from the perspective of inflammation

Abstract: Obesity is a well-known modifiable risk factor for breast cancer and is considered a poor prognostic factor in pre- and post-menopausal women. While the systemic effects of obesity have been extensively studied, less is known about the mechanisms underlying obesity-associated cancer risk and the local consequences of obesity. Thus, obesity-induced inflammation has become the focus of research interest. Biologically, the development of cancer involves a complex interaction with numerous components. As the tumor… Show more

“…TNF-α can exacerbate inflammatory response by stimulating the release of inflammatory factors such as IL-6 from endothelial cells and tissue macrophages. 14 The results of this study confirm that the levels of inflammatory factors IL-6 and TNF-α significantly increased in in vitro asthma cell model, and significantly decreased after treatment with an inhibitor of the Shh pathway or after co-culture with UCMSCs. These results suggest that both inhibition of the Hedgehog pathway and treatment with UCMSCs have therapeutic effects on asthma.…”

“…Compounds found in soft corals have also been recently reported by many studies for their anti-inflammatory effects. Because inflammation plays an increasingly important role in many clinical diseases [ 43 , 44 ], these compounds are also of particular interest in the application of inflammatory diseases [ 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 ]. In recent years, the incidence of diverse chronic inflammatory skin diseases has been increasing, especially atopic dermatitis.…”

“…The biological mechanisms leading to the occurrence of breast cancer are complex and can be caused by a number of risk factors, summarized in Figure 1 . These are related to genetics, hormonal exposure, lifestyle, food and alcohol consumption, obesity and environment [ 12 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ]. Genetic and hereditary factors account for less than 10% of breast cancers.…”
