This study investigates how management challenges have caused the demise of the Ahlussunnah Wal-Jamaah Waqf Foundation (ASWAJWF) in Ghana using human resource theory and the behavioral theory of leadership. Interviews were conducted with 24 participants who were directly involved in the collection of cash waqf and the management of ASWAJWF in ten of the 16 regions of Ghana. The findings attributed ASWAJWF’s demise to leaders’ misunderstanding of waqf as a typical sadaqah, lack of investment initiatives to sustain the fund due to managerial incompetence, and failure to consult and heed voluntary expert advice. This is the first study to examine Ghana's waqf management challenges. It is also the first waqf study to use theories of demise to explain how management challenges caused a waqf institution to ‘die’. Its exploratory nature ignites and invites other researchers to examine the reasons for the demise/closure of cash waqf institutions, thus serving as a reference for researchers. Finally, we expect this study to draw the attention of cash waqf stakeholders, including policymakers, to the need to provide effective management and governance frameworks/tools to revive cash waqf and to safeguard the interests of donors, beneficiaries, and the public at large.

Internal controls are essential to the achievement of organizational objectives. In any organization, the absence of these controls could contribute to the unreliability of financial reporting, the inability to achieve effectiveness and efficiency, and noncompliance with applicable regulations and laws. This study investigates the waqf unit's internal control practices at Yayasan Canselor Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (YCUKM). The investigation of internal control practices in the waqf unit was guided by the Committee on Sponsoring Organizations (COSO, 2013) internal control framework. Interviews and reviews of pertinent documents were utilized to collect data. The investigation revealed that the waqf unit of the Yayasan Canselor Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (YCUKM) had implemented all five internal control procedures. Control environment, risk assessment, control activities, information and communication, and monitoring activities are included. This study concludes that internal control is necessary for achieving an organization's goals. The findings may be used as a reference for enhancing internal control practices in waqf institutions in Malaysian public universities.

They are urged to adopt a prudent, meticulous, and careful attitude so that each waqf property can be developed in the best way possible to ensure that the property lasts for Muslims' socioeconomic needs (Mohaiyadin & Aman, 2021). In contrast, no explicit legislation or rules are provided by the SIRC in each state to control waqf implementation in HEIs.…”

Any higher education institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia intending to implement waqf must obtain approval from the State Islamic Religious Councils (SIRCs) as the sole trustee of waqf. Meanwhile, in Turkey, the consent of the Directorate General Foundation (DGF) is required to establish a foundation university. The study aims to analyze the legal framework in both countries for waqf implementation in HEIs. This research utilized a doctrinal approach and fieldwork study to gain in-depth data. The findings reveal that waqf implementation in HEIs in both countries is unique and implemented in diverse ways as they adhere to their legal frameworks.
