Understanding seed potato selection practices in Uganda

Abstract: Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is an important crop for food security and cash income for smallholder farmers in Uganda. However, the national mean potato yield has been in decline to less than 5 Mg ha -1 in 2016. Low productivity of potato might be associated with poor and diverse adoption of innovative crop management practices. Smallholder farmers in Uganda commonly use seed potato tubers from the informal sector, especially by seed recycling over several generations. Therefore, seed tubers are highly degene… Show more

“…Most recently the value of 20 mol of -SH groups per mol of flavin has been reported for the purified preparation of succinate dehydrogenase (organic mercurial was used as the reagent) [25]. On the other hand, the active site of the enzyme apparently contains only one sulfhydryl group as judged by stoichiometry between enzyme and tightly bound oxaloacetate, presumably forming the thiosemiacetal bond at the active site [26,27]. Nevertheless the use of MalNEt may give valuable information on the active-site sulfhydryl.…”

“…The examples discussed above exclude the 1,3-butadiene isomer because in 1976 Priegnitz patented ap rocess for separating 1,3-butadiene by selective adsorption on az eolite Xa dsorbentc ontaining sodium or potassium as nonframeworkc ations. [41] However,t he adsorption capacity of the zeolite at low diene partial pressures cannots atisfy today's purity requirements. [42] Studies with zeolite Yw ere performed, in which 100 %o ft he Na + nonframework cationsw ere exchanged for transition-metal ions.…”

“…Many foreign scientists have studied the socio-economic development and prospects of the agricultural network, including the activities of peasant farms and households. In particular, Uta Priegnits [4], Riya Jakhwal, Sudhanshu Singh [5], Aleksei V. Bogoviz, Vladimir S. Osipov [6], Kamaruddin Hasan, Masriadi [7], Gökçen Aydinbaş [8], K.Yu.Voloshenko, A. A.Mikhailova [1], A.Bobok [10], A.Zabuty [12], E.Budko [11], S. A.Belozyorov [9], Z.I.Kalugina [13], and others conducted theoretical research. In their scientific research work, they mainly highlighted the role and importance of farms in increasing the income of rural residents and studied the issues of their development in the future.…”
