Abstract: Innovation platforms (IPs) are a way of organizing multistakeholder interactions, marshalling ideas, people and resources to address challenges and opportunities embedded in complex settings. The approach has its roots in theories of complexity, the concept of innovation systems and practices of participatory action research. IPs have been widely adopted across Africa and beyond in recent years as a "must have" tool in a range of "for development" modes of agricultural research. Our experiences with establishi… Show more

“…To manage innovative development and resolve existing problems of agribusiness scientific support, it is necessary to provide conditions for development of scientific and (or) scientific and technical results, as well as scientific results implementation in production, and their subsequent involvement in economic turnover. This includes innovative platforms development to interact and distribute ideas, people, and resources, in order to solve problems and realize opportunities under complicated conditions (Davies et al, 2018). An innovative platform can stimulate and provide a basis for many-sided cooperation in order to implement the concept of a climate-smart agriculture at the local level (Osorio-García et al, 2020).…”

“…Moreover, the building of trust and social connectedness between the actor groups was found to strengthen the whole value chain. The effectiveness of innovation platforms is confirmed by agricultural innovation platforms, especially for longer periods (> 3 years) (Davies et al 2018). To facilitate social-learning based change, a regular repetition of the PIP is a recommended way forward to sustain the process of knowledge creation and "adaptive innovation management": Sparrow and Traoré (2018) found that the number of platform meetings was correlated with the functionality of the platform.…”
