“…Traditionally field feedback (service centre) information was and is still used in some industries [1] as the primary information source to support the development process. Mainly logistics-oriented information (how many spare parts are used to repair and/or replace the products) is collected.…”
In this paper we report the findings of a study intended to assess the usability of consumer related information sources in order to improve the design processes of innovative electronic products. Specifically, an evaluation is done of the quality and content of information that would help product development teams understand the interaction between the consumer, product and its environment as well as of the effect of this interaction upon consumer satisfaction with products.

Development of consumer goods that meet the buying and using expectations of the consumers is no longer a straightforward job. Technology becomes available at increasing pace, while at the same time the product life cycles ever shortening. Companies are challenged to bring innovative products faster to the market, with inherently higher uncertainties on the consumer expectations of these products. In this context, reliability has a different meaning and the design methods and tools required to manage reliability, as well as test strategies in this context, are different from the classical ones.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
