Underlying conservation and stability laws in nonlinear propagation of axicon-generated Bessel beams

Abstract: In light filamentation induced by axicon-generated, powerful Bessel beams, the spatial propagation dynamics in the nonlinear medium determines the geometry of the filament channel and hence its potential applications. We show that the observed steady and unsteady Bessel beam propagation regimes can be understood in a unified way from the existence of an attractor and its stability properties. The attractor is identified as the nonlinear unbalanced Bessel beam (NL-UBB) whose inward Hänkel beam amplitude equals … Show more

“…In Fig. 4(b), we numerically solve our reduced FWM equation (19) over a more realistic case of a pump spectrum composed of five frequencies in the range k r /k r0 ∈ [0.96 − 1.04]. We plot the evolution of the signal wave spectral intensity along propagation and compare results in soft and abrupt input conditions.…”

“…Regarding the practical generation of NBBs, they are excited by linear Bessel beams introduced in the nonlinear medium [19][20][21][22][25][26][27]. The linear Bessel beam u = b B J m √ 2ρ exp(imϕ) reshapes into the NBB characterized by the same cone angle, topological charge m and with inward Hänkel beam amplitude |b in | equal to b B [20,28]. Since for the linear Bessel beam |b in | = |b out | = b B , the NBB that tends to be formed is that preserving the amplitude of the inward Hänkel beam component.…”
