Under dark and visible light: fast degradation of methylene blue in the presence of Ag–In–Ni–S nanocomposites

Abstract: 5Ag-In-Ni-S nanocomposites of different shapes were productively achieved in water using thioacetamide at different temperatures in presence of SDS with uniform size distributions. It was found that variation of SDS and temperature had significant influence on morphology of Ag-In-Ni-S and their photocatalytic activity. The newly synthesized Ag-In-Ni-S nanocomposites were fully characterized by powder XRD, IR, UV-Vis, DRS, FE-SEM, TEM, EDX, XPS, BET and TGA. The catalytic activities were measured by 10 the degr… Show more

“…[29][30][31][32][33] Figures 3A and 3B show the absorbance and fluorescence spectra of the TA in aqueous solution (black curve), which is in accordance with that reported by other researchers. TA is known to be a nonabsorber/fluorescent compound that forms 2-hydroxyl terephthalic acid (HTA) complex upon reaction with hydroxyl radicals.…”

“…The quantity of MB amount (mg) divided by catalyst amount (mg), W 2,(MB) /W 1,(catalyst) , is used for evaluation. Ag-In-Ni-S nanocomposites with a W 2 /W 1 value of 0.0022 degraded 98% MB in 12 min41. NiS nanoparticles with a W 2 /W 1 value of 0.0089 degraded 100% MB in 15 min42.…”

“…Interestingly,a nu nconventional material, AgÀInÀNiÀSn anocomposite, was proposed for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye molecules under visible-light and dark conditions. [42] In this study,t he photocatalytic activity of the prepared materialw as investigated in the absence and presence of visible light (sunlight and 100 Wt ungsten lamp).N otably,t his material showed complete degradation of ag iven amount of dye under lamp and sunlight in 4a nd 2min, respectively,w hereas it took1 2min for complete degradation of the dye under dark conditions. It is proposed that, in the AgÀInÀNiÀSn anocomposite, the electron-storage properties of silver help to shift the Fermi level of the composites towardm ore negative valuest hat make the PC more reductive.…”
