Uncommon metastases of invasive lobular breast cancer to the endometrium: a report of two cases and review of the literature

Abstract: Although it is known that breast cancer can metastasize to many organ sites, metastasis to the uterus is uncommon and usually occurs during widespread metastatic disease. Lobular carcinoma is not the most common histological subtypes of breast carcinoma, but it is the most frequent histologic type that causes gastrointestinal, gynecological and peritoneal metastases. The main symptoms of the uterine metastasis depend on the anatomic involvement site. Abnormal uterine bleeding is by far the most important sympt… Show more

“…In fact, different histological types of primary breast cancer are associated with different sites of metastasis. Compared with invasive ductal cancer, invasive lobular carcinoma is more likely to have distant metastases, particularly in the GI tract, peritoneum, ovaries and uterus [ 13 , 14 ]. In addition, according to Taal et al, 83% of patients with gastric metastasis had invasive lobular carcinoma [ 6 ], which is consistent with our findings.…”

“…Another type of endometrial cancer is lobular carcinoma. It is uncommon and most often metastasizes to the gastrointestinal, gynecological and peritoneal tracts [24]. Endometrial tumors are divided into five histological subtypes: endometrioid, serous, mixed (combination of endometrioid and serous), clear cell, and malignant mixed Mullerian tumor.…”

“…Metastatic involvement of the uterine corpus is rare [ 5 ]. It usually occurs in the myometrium and less commonly in the endometrium and leiomyomas [ 6 , 7 ]. Breast carcinoma is the most common metastatic neoplasm, with invasive lobular breast carcinoma accounting for 90% of cases [ 5 ].…”
