Umbilical Nodule Metastasis from Unknown Primary: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Dilemma

Abstract: Umbilical nodule metastasis is not a common presentation of carcinoma of unknown primary. It may be the presenting symptom of a primary malignancy or as metastatic site of previously diagnosed cancer and is considered to be a poor prognostic finding. We here report a case of young male who presented with umbilical mass, but the primary could not be localized even after thorough investigations and work up. Also, there existed therapeutic dilemma because immunohistochemistry did not favor one site, and so he was… Show more

“…*The age of the studied patients was (62.32±7.82) years, The majority of them were males (72%) and (64%) of them were smokers. Also, our results showed that the most common presenting symptoms were jaundice in 33 (66%) of patients followed by abdominal pain in 11(22%) patients and 5 patients accidentally discovered and 1 patient presented with abdominal swelling as shown in table(2).As regards to laboratory investigation of the studied patients, our results showed that patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma had elevated serum bilirubin (8.74 + 7.82), elevated serum ALT (69.31 + 66.78), serum CA 19.9 (163.55 + 186.18) and serum CEA (14.56 + 18.54) as showed in table(3).…”

“…Various analytical techniques allow for better differentiation and quantification of metabolites in bodily fluids which may be good candidates for diagnosing and monitoring stroke. A proton nuclear magnetic resonance metabolomics study in rats showed that the levels of 23 metabolites are altered significantly including amino acids and neurometabolites such as N-acetyl aspartate, glutamate, glutamine, myo-inositol, and adenosine diphosphate (S. Gupta et al, 2020).…”

“…Pancreatic cancer stands as a malignancy characterized by a dismal prognosis, boasting a mere five-year survival rate that scarcely surpasses 10% [ 1 ]. Globally, it ranks as the sixth most prevalent cancer and constitutes the third principal cause of cancer-induced mortality in the United States, further attesting to its profound impact [ 2 ]. The potential for curative intervention lies primarily in surgical resection with sufficient safety margins when metastatic lesions are absent.…”
