“…Most of the species of Hylodes we examined were reported to have well developed, paired vocal sacs [ H. dactylocinus , (Pavan, Narvaes, & Rodrigues, ); H. japi (de Sá, Canedo, Lyra, & Haddad, ; de Sá et al, 2016); H. meridionalis (Mertens, ) ; H. otavioi (Sazima & Bokermann, ); H. perere (Silva & Benmaman, ); H. regius (Gouvêa, )]. There is no reference to vocal sacs in the original description of H. mertensi and no males are known to date (Bokermann, ).…”

“…The call notes of H. amnicola are emitted at a higher rate (18.1/s) and in shorter duration (0.015-0.034 s; Pombal et al 2002). The call notes of H. perere are emitted in lower number per call (24-44), at a lower rate (13.7/s), and with a longer duration (0.03-0.06 s; Silva and Benmaman 2008). The call notes of H. sazimai are emitted in lower number per call (28-35), at a lower rate (14.5/s), with a longer duration (0.04-0.05 s), and at a lower dominant frequency (4.0-5.5 kHz; Haddad and Pombal 1995).…”
