Ultrawideband and High-Efficiency Linear Polarization Converter Based on Double V-Shaped Metasurface

Abstract: In this paper, a double V-shaped metasurface that can efficiently convert linear polarizations of electromagnetic waves in wideband is proposed. Based on the electric and magnetic resonant features of a single V-shaped particle, four electromagnetic resonances are generated in a V-shaped pair, leading to significant bandwidth expansion of cross-polarized reflections. The simulation results show that the proposed metasurface is able to convert linearly polarized waves into cross-polarized waves in ultra-wideban… Show more

“…As can be seen that, at frequency of 10.85 GHz, the most surface currents along the L-shaped resonators are parallel to the induced on the metallic ground, which generates the electric resonance. On the contrary, at frequencies of 6.25 and 16.95 GHz, the most surface currents along the L-shaped resonators are antiparallel to the induced currents, which generates magnetic resonances [26].…”

“…The polarization states can be manipulated by the interference of the polarization dependent reflections for the proposed structure. The ring cavity is systemically proved to support different plasmon hybridizations [22][23][24]. On this basis, the polarization converter is designed and measured.…”

“…The plasmon resonances and plasmon hybridizations were observed in metamaterials and were applied for manipulation of polarization recently [22]. The plasmon hybridization could occur within not only a single structure but also a complex structure if the structure supported the multiple plasmon resonances and was observed in metamaterial structures at microwave wavelengths [23], [24].…”
