Ultrastructural Study on the Release Reaction of the Platelet

Abstract: The ultrastructural changes of human or rabbit platelets in response to release inducers I were studied by using isolated cells from the respective platelet rich plasma. The changes of platelets were more dynamic in ADP than those in epinephrine and endotoxin though common changes occurred in all cases. In the platelets on release reaction, there were well preserved alphagranules and the disappearance of very dense granules accompanied by simultaneous appearance of round vesicles. The contraction wave of the m… Show more

“…A few seconds after the addition of ADP, collagen or thrombin a slight decrease in percent light transmission (%T) is observed, followed by a rapid increase in % T which attains its maximum at the generation of secondary aggregates. The morphological alterations of platelets in the aggregometer have been studied extensively by light and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) (2,4,17). SEM studies using the aggregometer method, however, were not available.…”
