Ultrasonically assisted friction stir welding of aluminium alloy 6061

Abstract: Ultrasonically assisted friction stir welding (UAFSW) was explored. Metallographic structures and material flow prepared by UAFSW were compared with those prepared by conventional FSW. Hardness curves, tensile strength, and elongation of welds fabricated at different ultrasonic powers were characterised. Experimental results showed that hardness curves, tensile strength of welds increased with increased ultrasonic power when it was less than 50%. The elongations decreased with ultrasonic energy output increase… Show more

“…Ultrasonic vibration or impact is known to mitigate the level of residual stress in welded joints 24,25 or due to machining. 26 Liu and co-workers 27 show that the simultaneous application of electropulsing and ultrasonic treatment leads to a favourable surface structure in stainless steel.…”

“…Revisiting of extrusion cutting was attempted in the beginning of the twenty-first century [61][62][63][64][65][66][67][68]. A research team from Purdue University obtained patent US 7,617,750 (2009) "Process of producing nanocrystalline bodies" and filed patent application US 2014/0017113 (2014) "Large strain extrusion machining processes and bulk forms produced therefrom."…”

“…To show that this is the case, consider the developments and results presented in patent US 7,617,750 (2009), patent application US 2014/0017113 (2014) and paper [66] by essentially the same team of researchers. The patented equipment shown in Fig.…”
