Ultrasonic Extraction of Phenolic Compounds from Laminaria japonica Aresch Using Ionic Liquid as Extraction Solvent

Abstract: An ionic liquid-based ultrasonic-assisted extraction method has been successfully applied to the effective extraction of phenolic compounds from Laminaria japonica Aresch. Three kinds of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium with different cations and anions were evaluated for extraction efficiency. The results showed that both the characteristics of anions and cations have remarkable effects on the extraction efficiency. In addition, the ionic liquid-based ultrasonic-assisted extraction procedure was also optimized on … Show more

“…In recent years, ILs-based extraction techniques were used for the extraction of phenolic compounds from plant materials [ 102 , 103 , 104 ]. However, the use of ILs-based extraction of phenolic compounds from the marine resources like seaweeds is scarce [ 86 , 105 ].…”

“…In addition, it was reported that the factors influencing the extraction ability are very complicated, hydrogen-bonding ability can be the main factor influencing the extraction considering the anions [31], π-π and n-π interactions also should not be omitted in view of imidazole ring-containing cations [32]. Although [C 4 mim]BF 4 was commonly used as the extractant in IL-UAE [18,[33][34][35], some research groups had reported that tetrafluoroborate-based ILs were not water-stable as they could undergo hydrolysis in aqueous solution [36,37] …”

“…The results showed that high amounts of phenolics compounds were obtained in the first minute of extraction and longer time did not effect on amount of extraction. Also in the other research plan Row et al performed extraction of phenolic compounds from Laminaria japonica Aresch with three kinds of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium with different cations and anions [25]. The results showed that, the characteristics of both anions and cations have remarkable effects on the extraction efficiency.…”
