Ultrasonic accelerated Knoevenagel condensation by magnetically recoverable MgFe2O4 nanocatalyst: A rapid and green synthesis of coumarins under solvent-free conditions

Abstract: The novel and green procedure to synthesis of 3-substituted coumarins was performed through the Knoevenagel condensation between various salicylaldehydes and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds by MgFeO nanoparticles as an efficient catalyst under solvent-free condition using ultrasound irradiation. The nano catalyst was easily recovered by an external magnet and reused for several times without significant loss of its catalytic performance. Compare to the previous works, this progressive protocol have advantages such as… Show more

“…One of the novel methodologies that attract significant attention in biocatalyzed esterification reactions is the use of ultrasonic systems, alternative greener processes with high yields, and a greater selectivity as compared to other methodologies (Adak and Banerjee, 2016 ; Gupta S. et al, 2017 ; Gupta S. M. et al, 2017 ; Javad Safaei Ghomi, 2018 ). By comparison with conventional heating in carousel reactors, where mass transfer in esterification reactions is very limited, acoustic cavitation, and ultrasound hydrodynamics can solve mass transfer limitations at short times of reaction (Singh et al, 2007 ; Mahamuni and Adewuyi, 2009 ; Thanh le et al, 2010 ; Batistella et al, 2012 ; Veljković et al, 2012 ; Bhangu et al, 2017 ).…”

“…Essentially the main role of ultrasound irradiation is enhancement number of active cavitation bubbles and size of the individual bubbles. Both of which are expected to result in higher maximum collapse temperature and accelerated the synthesis of pyrimidines derivatives by the Biginelli‐Like reaction …”

“…Knoevenagel condensation between various salicylaldehydes and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, by using MgFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles as an efficient catalyst under solvent-free conditions and ultrasound irradiation, has been reported [ 69 ]. High yields, simple work-up procedure and short reaction times are further advantages of the proposed protocol.…”
