Ultraslim S-Type Power Supply Rails for Roadway-Powered Electric Vehicles

Abstract: An ultraslim S-type power supply rail, which has a width of only 4 cm, for roadway-powered electric vehicles (RPEVs) is proposed in this paper. The cross section of the core has a thin S-shape, and a vertically-wound multiturn coil is displaced inside the core. In this way, the most slim power supply rail is designed, which is crucial for the commercialization of RPEVs. The construction of roadway infrastructure, which is responsible for more than 80% of the total deployment cost for RPEVs, can be much easier … Show more

“…The experimental results showed that the output power was reduced and reached nearly 1 kW at the cross-point of the poles as the pickup moved away from the center of the pole along Xdirection, and the output power exceeded 20 kW as the pickup laterally moved in Y -direction within 20 cm and became half at 24 cm from the center of the power supply rail. The system efficiency was 74%; 2) A large lateral displacement of 30 cm at an air gap of 20 cm was experimentally obtained by using ultraslim S-type power supply rails [17]. The load power reached the −3 dB point having half of its maximum load power with the lateral tolerance of 30 cm; 3) A new homogeneous WPT technique was proposed and implemented to maintain the output voltage constant for lateral and vertical misalignments systems [18,19].…”

“…6, i R is determined by x so that i M can be calculated as a function of x when the other parameters are fixed. Specifically, the relationship between i M and x can be obtained based on formula (10). The correlation between i P and x can be further derived according to formula (4) and formula (8).…”

“…Consequently, the efficiency is reduced and electromagnetic interference (EMI) is increased. Several studies are conducted to address EMI problem and also to simplify the structure of the system [12][13][14]. In [12] and [13], I-type and S-type transmitters are proposed with a width of 10 cm and 4 cm, respectively.…”

In [12] and [13], I-type and S-type transmitters are proposed with a width of 10 cm and 4 cm, respectively. Additional, by adopting the alternating magnetic polarity for adjacent poles, the EMI around the transmitter coils can be substantially reduced through electromagnetic field cancelation between two adjacent magnetic poles of opposite polarity.…”
