Ultrafast Photodoping and Plasmon Dynamics in Fluorine–Indium Codoped Cadmium Oxide Nanocrystals for All-Optical Signal Manipulation at Optical Communication Wavelengths

Abstract: We show the ultrafast photodoping and plasmon dynamics of the near-infrared (NIR) localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of fluorine-indium codoped cadmium oxide (FICO) nanocrystals (NCs). The combination of high temporal resolution and broad spectral coverage allowed us to model the transient absorption (TA) spectra in terms of the Drude model, verifying the increase in carrier density upon ultrafast photodoping. Our analysis also suggests that a change in carrier effective mass takes place upon LSPR exci… Show more

“…[109,111,112] By increasing the pump power, more electrons accumulate in the CB and a higher intensity PIA signal is detected, which blue shifts with increasing pump power. [109,112] Figure 10. Indeed, depending on the reductant chosen as sacrificial hole scavenger, a different number of CB electrons can be accumulated by photochemical oxidation, and thus is not an intrinsic property of the multiply reduced ZnO NCs themselves.…”

“…The plasma frequency is written as = * (17) In this expression N is the number of charges, e the electron charge, * the effective mass and the vacuum dielectric constant. For FICO, we use = 1.68 × 10 ℎ ⁄ and * = 0.43 ⁄ , a free carrier damping Γ = 0.07, and a high frequency dielectric constant, = 5.6, is taken from [33,34].…”

“…oxide (FICO) nanocrystals an ultrafast modulation of the plasmon resonance has been shown after band edge excitation due to the ultrafast photodoping. 42 The authors extracted a monoexponential recovery time within several picoseconds, indicative of the recombination of electron and hole. These measurements thus detect the temporarily increased carrier density after photodoping as long as the electron is placed in the conduction band and before recombining with the excited state hole.…”
