Ultrafast double pulse parametric amplification for precision Ramsey metrology

Abstract: Abstract:We demonstrate phase stable, mJ-level parametric amplification of pulse pairs originating from a Ti:Sapphire frequency comb laser. The amplifier-induced phase shift between the pulses has been determined interferometrically with an accuracy of ≈ 10 mrad. Typical phase shifts are on the order of 50-200 mrad, depending on the operating conditions. The measured phase-relation can be as stable as 20 mrad rms (1/300 th of an optical cycle). This makes the system suitable for Ramsey spectroscopy at short wa… Show more

“…In order to measure additional phase shifts induced by the OPCPA, the phases of the two amplified FC pulses were compared with the technique of linear spectral interferometry, using 25% of the FC seed power split off before the OPCPA as a reference [18,19]. By comparing the spectral interference patterns of the two FC pulses, the differential spectral phase induced by the OPCPA can then be determined via a Fourier-transform method [20].…”

“…This still leads to rather narrowly spaced modes. A solution was demonstrated, making use of the amplification of only a few subsequent pulses from a comb laser to microjoules (Witte et al 2005, Zinkstok et al 2006) and even milli-joules level (Kandula et al 2008). With pulse lengths in the 100 fs-1 ps range, this is sufficient to generate HHG.…”

“…Geometrical and real phase shifts could be distinguished in this manner with an accuracy of 25 mrad (Witte et al 2005). An improved version at a level of 5 mrad was demonstrated by Kandula et al (2008) for characterizing the beam from an optical parametric amplifier. One should bear in mind though that the phase shifts can vary spatially across the beam on a level of 30-100 mrad for such an amplifier (Kandula et al 2008).…”
