Ultrafast conversion of carcinogenic 4-nitrophenol into 4-aminophenol in the dark catalyzed by surface interaction on BiPO4/g-C3N4 nanostructures in the presence of NaBH4

Abstract: The heterogeneous catalytic conversion of pollutants into useful industrial compounds is a two-goals at once process, which is highly recommended from the environmental, economic, and industrial points of view.

“…Consequently, the development of low-cost, highly stable, ultrafast, and recyclable catalysts for effective elimination of nitroarenes is highly desirable in various industrial applications. 44 It is well established that at the nano-regime, Au and Auhybrid NPs are particularly useful for the as-mentioned catalytic conversions. However, bare AuNPs ae usually not that stable, can easily agglomerate through catalytic processes, and are difficult to separate from reaction medium, resulting in clear reduction in catalytic activities.…”

“…UV-vis spectroscopy was performed to measure the absorbance values and the kinetics of ratios was monitored based on the color change of the solution at 400 nm (yellow) and 300 nm (colorless). The apparent reaction constant ( k app ) was calculated using the formula reported by Azzam et al : 43 ln( A t / A 0 ) = − k app t .…”

“…The analysis revealed a time-dependent alteration in the chromaticity of the reaction solution, i.e. the initial yellow-colored solution of 4-nitrophenolate ion became colorless while undergoing a reduction reaction (converting 4-NP to 4-AP) in the presence of AuNPs and AuNPs@MXene composites [51,52]. In all the cases, the UV-vis spectra indicate a gradual disappearance of the absorption peak of 4-NP at 400 nm, accompanied by the evolution of the new absorption peak at 300 nm (i.e.…”
