Several unsupported and supported molybdenum-based catalysts were prepared by precipitation and impregnation, and characterized by N2 adsorption, XRD, H2-TPR, and XPS. The catalytic activity for alcohol synthesis was evaluated using a fixed-bed pressurized flow reaction system under the following conditions: 250-350 , 5.0 MPa, GHSV of 5000 h -1, and H2/CO ratio of 1.0. Addition of Co to the unsupported MoS2-bulk catalyst enhanced the selectivity for C2 alcohols and total alcohols, and reduced the selectivity for hydrocarbons. Addition of K to Co04MoS improved the selectivity for total alcohols and suppressed the formation of hydrocarbons, increased the selectivity for methanol and CO2, and decreased carbon-chain growth. The alumina-supported catalyst was the most favorable for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis but was unfavorable for C2 alcohol synthesis. The silica-supported catalyst was more favorable for C2 alcohol synthesis than the unsupported catalyst.

Deep Hydrodesulfurization of Dibenzothiophenes Over NiW Sulfide Catalysts Supported on Sol–Gel Titania–Alumina

This work showed that the use of Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 as carriers has a positive effect on the activity of supported NiW catalysts in the hydrodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene and 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene carried out in a batch reactor at 320°C and total H 2 pressure of 5.5 MPa. Two Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 mixed oxides with Al/Ti atomic ratios of 10 and 2 were synthesized by sol-gel method together with the pure Al 2 O 3 synthesized as reference support. For NiW/ Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 and NiW/Al 2 O 3 catalysts, a metal load of 17 and 5.5 wt% of W and Ni were considered respectively. It was found that both Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 -supported catalysts exhibited higher activity than alumina-supported one. The catalyst with a largest TiO 2 content (NiW/AT2) demonstrated to be 23 % more active with respect to NiW/Al 2 O 3 . Solids were characterized by temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), high resolution transmission electronic microscopy and X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. A decrease in support-metal interaction (from TPR) was observed when Ti content increased, which could lead to a higher amount of NiWS phase (from XPS). Besides, a slight increase in the slabs length in WS 2 was observed for titania-containing catalyst with respect to NiW/Al 2 O 3 , indicating that the dispersion can still be optimized. The atomic ratio Al/Ti = 2 of the NiW/Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 catalyst proved to be a potential substitute for current catalysts for sulfur reduction in ultra-clean diesel.

Metal phosphide has been widely investigated as a hydrotreating catalyst. The preparation and performance of noble metal phosphide catalyst was examined to develop new phosphide hydrotreating catalysts. The supports affect reducibility of phosphate as a P precursor. Since phosphate does not strongly interact with SiO2 and TiO2 supports, Rh2P was easily formed on these supports. Furthermore, formation of Rh2P enhanced the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) activity of supported Rh _ P catalyst. The type of noble metal (NM) and P/NM ratio also strongly affect formation of noble metal phosphide and HDS activity. Excess P facilitates formation of noble metal phosphides at lower reduction temperature. In contrast, excess P causes the aggregation of noble metal phosphide and formation of phosphorus rich noble metal phosphide. Rh _ 1.5P/SiO2 catalyst had high and stable activity for HDS reaction. Furthermore, this catalyst showed significantly higher hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) activity than sulfided NiMoP/Al2O3 catalyst. Therefore, Rh2P has great potential as a new hydrotreating catalyst.
