Insomnia is one of the sleep disorders and more severe symptoms can culminate in the onset of stress disorder. The high threat of being affected by COVID-19 causes insomnia, so drugs such as sedatives are required to treat this disorder. Research has been carried out on the sedative activity of infusion of citronella leaves (Cymbopogon nardus (L.) Rendle) in Swiss webster strains of male mice by the traction test method. The study used twenty-five mice randomly divided into five groups. Each group was given different preparations such as negative control given Na CMC 0.5%, the positive control group was given suspension of diazepam and the infusion group of citronella leaves with concentrations of 10% w/v, 30% w/v and 50% w/v as the test groups sequentially. The results showed that citronella leaves infusion had increased sedative activity along with in conjunction with an increment in test concentration. The infusion concentration of citronella leaves that have maximum sedative activity was found at a concentration of 50% w/v in the variations tested and have significantly different results compared to the control group.

Background; Mangosteen leaves (Garcinia mangostana L.) have secondary metabolites, namely phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids. Phenolics are one of the largest groups of compounds found in mangosteen leaves which have several pharmacological and therapeutic functions, one of which is anti-cancer. Objectives; To determine the total phenol content and profile of secondary metabolites and the type of phenolic extract of mangosteen leaves. Method; Using UV-Vis spectrophotometer Folin-Ciocalteu method with the gallic acid standard. Profile of secondary metabolites and phenolic types using LCMS. Results; Based on the research that has been done, the total phenolic content is obtained where the highest concentration is in the ethanol extract 96% (290.90 mg GAE/g extract or 29.08%), then ethyl acetate extract (161.07 mg GAE/g extract or 16, 10%). Identification of LCMS, detected 15 compounds, including 6 phenolic compounds. Phenolic compounds found were gallic acid, amarogentin, oleuropein glucoside, mandelic acid, vanillic acid, and gentisic acid.. Conclusion; Phenolic compounds can act as antioxidants by protecting body cells from damage caused by free radicals such as degenerative diseases, one of which is cancer due to free radical induction.

Background: It has become important to provide advice and education to herbal remedies users to increase evidence-based awareness of their potential side effects. This research explores the side effects of the Ziziphus spina-christi (ZSC) aqueous extract on biochemical indicators and histopathological changes of the liver, kidneys of female rats. Methods: Fifteen female rats (five in each group) were orally administrated with the extract of ZSC at dosages of 10, 50 and 100 mg/kg bw/day for 14 days. Five other females were considered a control group, given only water. Clinical observations of toxicity were recorded during fifteen days. The biochemical biomarkers of liver (ALT and ALP enzymes) and kidneys (creatinine, uric acid and blood urea nitrogen) were evaluated in blood serum. Result: In addition, the histopathological alterations in organs were evaluated. The results did not show any clear toxicity on the animal’s weight or body organs. The alkaline phosphatase was elevated in female rats who received 50 mg and 100 mg of ZSC aqueous extract in comparison with the control group. The results did not show any significant changes in the serum glucose, BUN, creatinine, uric acid, alanine aminotransferase levels in female rats who received ZSC extract for 14 days. In conclusion, the results showed indications of side effects of the ZSC extract on liver enzymes after treating female rats with ZSC extract for 14 days.
