Sungkai (Peronema canescens Jack.) is a plant that has straight or slightly curved stems, no buttresses, and branches covered with fine hairs. Sungkai (P. canescens) is one of the many medicinal plants that grow in Indonesia and is widely used, the part that is commonly used is the leaves, where the leaves of Sungkai (P. canescens) have been widely known as a cure for several diseases such as malaria, high fever and for maintaining health. Research on the antimicrobial potential of sungkai leaf extract (P. canescens) and its antioxidant activity was carried out from April to August 2022. This study used the 2-factor Nested pattern experimental method. This study aims to determine the antimicrobial activity, determine Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) as well as determine the antioxidant activity of the fresh treatment, fresh infusion, dry infusion, dry infusion plus lime and dried decoction of sungkai leaves (P. canescens). The test microbes used in this study ware Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The research results showed that sungkai leaf extract (P. canescens) could inhibit the growth of the tested microbes S. aureus and E. coli by producing significantly different inhibition zones and for the tested microbes C. albicans swere significantly different. MIC of fresh sungkai for S. aureus 25% and 50% E. coli. The highest antioxidant activity value was found in fresh samples with an IC50 value of 98.02 µg/mL which was classified as strong and the highest polyphenols in fresh treatment were 76.73 (mgGAE/G).

Melinjo peel (Gnetum gnemon L.) contains secondary metabolites with antibacterial characteristics such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of 96% ethanol and n-hexane extract of melinjo peel resulting from the multilevel maceration against Shigella dysenteriae and Bacillus cereus bacteria. This research is an experimental study to test the antibacterial activity of melinjo peel extract as measured by the Diameter of Inhibition Zone (DIZ) and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) at concentrations of 12.5%, 25%, and 50%. The results found that the extract resulted from maceration with 96% ethanol solvent as much as 70.95 g with a yield of 14.19% and n-hexane solvent as much as 7.07 g with a yield of 1.41%. The 96% ethanol extract of melinjo peel gave the highest DIZ at a concentration of 50% against Bacillus cereus compared to Shigella dysenteriae. In contrast, the DIZ of n-hexane extract of melinjo peel had no inhibitory power against both of bacteria in all concentrations. MIC of 96% ethanol extract of melinjo peel extract against Shigella dysenteriae and Bacillus cereus at concentrations of 50% and 25%, respectively, whereas n-hexane extract melinjo peel had no MIC value against both bacteria.

Plants with various varieties can be found in various regions in Indonesia. Many varieties of medicinal plants in Indonesia have been used as raw materials to manufacture drugs. Some of these plants have been clinically evaluated for their phytochemical composition, efficacy, and safety to use. Bidara leaves, scientifically known as Zizhipus mauritiana L., are often used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat several ailments, such as urinary problems, indigestion, fever, liver complaints, weakness, anemia, obesity, diabetes, bronchitis, skin infections, loss of appetite, eating, pharyngitis, diarrhea, cancer, and insomnia. Reference libraries obtained from the search results are then studied and examined to determine research findings, then described using data or samples collected. From research and literature studies, bidara leaves have many uses, namely, as an anti-microbial agent, an analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer, and can protect body cells such as the kidneys and brain from oxidative stress, which can cause cancer.
