UHMK1 Is a Novel Marker for Personalized Prediction of Pancreatic Cancer Prognosis

Abstract: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is among the leading causes of cancer mortality, and new therapeutic options are urgently needed. Long noncoding RNA H19 (H19) is known to promote PDAC progression, but the downstream genes of H19 are largely unknown. Five PDAC cell lines, nonmalignant pancreatic cells, TCGA, GEO-derived pancreatic tissues (malignant, n=413; nonmalignant, n=234), a pancreatic tissue array (n=96), and pancreatic tissues from our clinic (malignant, n=20; nonmalignant, n=20) were examined b… Show more

“…Furthermore, UHMK1 knockdown reduced migration, while UHMK1 overexpression increased migration. These results are in line with previous reports, showing that modulation of UHMK1 affects cell migration, colony formation, and proliferation ( 13 , 16 , 25 ) and further support the data that UHMK1 regulates the phosphorylation of protein networks governing these cellular processes.…”

“…By reprogramming the nucleotide metabolism through the UHMK1–NCOA3–ATF4 axis, UHMK1 contributes to gastric cancer ( 24 ). Also, the involvement of UHMK1 in pancreatic and colon cancers was recently reported ( 25 , 26 ).…”

“…Research on UHMK1 was initially focused on neurological diseases such as schizophrenia 17 , 18 because of its abundant expression in the nervous system. 19 In the last few years, many researches have revealed the function of UHMK1 in promoting the initiation and progression of different types of cancer, including ovarian cancer, 20 , 21 melanoma, 22 , 23 cervical cancer, 24 liver cancer, 25 , 26 colorectal carcinoma, 27 , 28 pancreatic cancer, 29 , 30 , 31 and gastric cancer. 32 However, no studies have investigated the function and regulatory mechanism of UHMK1 in LUAD.…”
