UbiPriSEQ—Deep Reinforcement Learning to Manage Privacy, Security, Energy, and QoS in 5G IoT HetNets

Abstract: 5G networks and Internet of Things (IoT) offer a powerful platform for ubiquitous environments with their ubiquitous sensing, high speeds and other benefits. The data, analytics, and other computations need to be optimally moved and placed in these environments, dynamically, such that energy-efficiency and QoS demands are best satisfied. A particular challenge in this context is to preserve privacy and security while delivering quality of service (QoS) and energy-efficiency. Many works have tried to address th… Show more

“…Artificial intelligence has taken us by storm [ 24 ], and has led to the emergence of concepts such as artificially intelligent cities [ 25 ]. A key to providing smartness for emerging urban and rural environments is to continuously sense and analyze these environments and make timely and effective decisions [ 6 , 10 , 24 , 26 ]. Social media analysis using machine learning has become a key method to provide the pulse for sensing and engaging with the environments [ 6 ] and is expected to provide smarter solutions for our fight against COVID-19 and future pandemics as well as during peace times.…”

“…Mohammed et al [104] proposed the UbiPriSEQ framework, which aims to holistically and adaptively optimize energy efficiency, security, privacy, and quality of service (QoS). They reported an implementation of the proposed framework using deep reinforcement learning (DRL), which allows for devising policies and making decisions related to important parameters, such as transmit power, the specific fog nodes to be selected for offloading data and computation, and so on.…”

“…A number of key technological developments are shaping the development of highspeed and low-latency networks, such as fifth-generation networks (5G), which offer a powerful system for ubiquitous environments with advanced sensing and processing capabilities, along with IoT [104]. The requirements of next-generation societies are underpinned by the need to ubiquitously deliver smart services (AI and data-driven) and to increase the numbers of sensors, and these requirements are expected to be met by 6G, the next generation of cellular networks [103][104][105][106].…”

“…Different technologies combined with 5G networks aim to improve the health services. The works in [3], [4] focus on applying deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the performance in heterogeneous networks, also tackling how to enhance health services in [5]. Other works [6], [7] offer solutions to improve the security in healthcare systems, while some of them focus on multiple heterogeneous networks settings [8].…”
