“…Even rarer is its association with PDCBD (Patti et al 1985), they reported that 49 cases of PDPV had been reported by 1980, and in only six of these was this malformation associated with an anteduodenal position of the common bile duct. We have confirmed the two sources cited by him as being repetitive; the cases of PDCBD should actually be four, namely, two cases reported by Braun and Cuendet (1971) and two cases reported by Stengel (1934) and Debray et al (1962). However, in another source cited by Patti, Braun et al (1974) two cases of PDPV were reported which were not associated with PDCBD.…”

“…Four of eight cases, ranging in age from 4 days to 9 months, were associated with duodenal anomalies (Table 3). In adults, PDPV is often symptom less and is an exceptionally rare condition, and it was usually discovered as an accidental finding during laparotomy for another reason (Leung et al 1996), or after death in autopsy or cadaver (Stengel 1934, and our case). Stevens (1978) reviewed 44 cases of previously reported preduodenal portal vein.…”

“…Only nine cases of an anomalous portal vein causing duodenal obstruction have been previously recorded (Stengel, 1934 Boles & Smith, 1961;Block & Zikoia, 1961). This anterior transposition of the portal vein can be explained on an embryological basis.…”

“…X-ray of the abdomen made 11 days following operation showed the stomach still enlarged but there was no evidence of pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis. She was dismissed from the hospital on the twelfth postoperative day.…”
