Die chemische Peptidsynthese unterscheidet sich von der biologischen Eiweißsynthese trotz formaler Ähnlichkeiten in einigen wesentlichen Punkten. Nach Erläuterungen der theoretischen Grundlagen der Peptidsynthese wird auf die für die Synthese in vitro und in vivo gleichfalls wichtige Aminosäure‐Aktivierung mit energiereichen Phosphorverbindungen und über energiereiche Ester eingegangen. Die Problematik der Synthese biologisch aktiver Polypeptide wird am Beispiel des β‐Corticotropins und des Insulins erläutert. Der Ablauf der biologischen Eiweißsynthese, deren wichtigste Reaktionsschritte behandelt werden, ist im Prinzip erforscht, jedoch noch nicht in allen Stufen aufgeklärt.
