“…Our previous in vestigations showed that cefazolin does not penetrate into the CSF sufficiently despite high serum levels [6]. Cephacetrile is re ported to reach higher CSF concentrations [4], Our results confirmed the lack of pene tration of cephacetrile into the CSF in pa tients without meningitis [7],…”

“…FRIEDRICH et al (1979) reported that 2-to 4-g doses of cephracetrile sodium given every 6 h led to no detectable antimicrobial activity in CSF even after 5 days of therapy, suggesting that penetration may result only when there is inflammation or other impairement of the blood--cerebrospinal fluid barrier as observed by DUVAL et al (1974). This may have been alluded to in a study by DETTLI et al (1976), who reported that 3 g cephacetrile injected intravenously every 6 h to patients with bacterial meningitis led to significant CSF levels of antimicrobial activity. WINDORFER and GASTEIGER (1977) found that the disappearance of antimicrobial activity from the serum of premature and full-term babies was 3-5 times slower than from adult serum.…”
