“…Both CO1 and ribosomal molecular data support the expected placement of P. diblastus within the family Chordodidae but outside the subfamily Chordodinae, which includes only species without bilobed male posterior ends (Heinze, 1935; Bleidorn et al . 2002; Schmidt-Rhaesa, 2013).…”

Euchordodes nigromaculatus was confirmed as belonging to Chordodinae using both mitochondrial and ribosomal datasets as shown by Bleidorn et al (2002) and as classically defined due to its lack of tail lobes.…”

“…The justification for separation of Gordionus and Parachordodes, as originally proposed by Mueller (1927) and interpreted by Heinze (1941), Hyman (1951), and Pennak (1989), rests on differences in the areoles and presence (in a few forms of Gordionus) of adhesive warts in place of some hair-like processes in the cloaca1 region. North American species which had been placed in Gordionus by Heinze (1935) differ markedly in the gross morphology of the male posterior and areoles from the European species traditionally in Parachordodes (s.1.). If Gordionus is a recognizable group according to the definition of Mueller (1927) then all North American species exclusive of P. lineatus and P. violaceus, following convention, would belong to a different genus altogether.…”

“…Paragordionus is a problematic genus. In the original characterization, Heinze (1935) includes megareoles as being present. Clear megareoles in large clusters (Fig.…”
