E r krystallisierte beiin Er… Show more

“…Identification of the amyltoluenes was hampered by the lack of characterization data in the literature. Most of the reported work dealing with amyltoluenes has either lacked purification of the alkylate mixture, included unsubstantiated claims of the synthesis of a specific isomer, or reported alkylation by methods that would be unlikely to yield the isomer selectively. In only two instances were efforts made to ensure selective synthesis, purification, and characterization, and these accounts dealt only with isomers 3 and 5 . , This necessitated substantial effort to positively identify the species present in the product mixture, and details can be found in the Supporting Information.
4 Possible amyltoluene isomers: n -pentyltoluene ( 1 ), 1-methylbutyltoluene ( 2 ), 1-ethylpropyltoluene ( 3 ), 2-methylbutyltoluene ( 4 ), 1,1-dimethylpropyltoluene ( 5 ), 1,2-dimethylpropyltoluene ( 6 ), and 3-methylbutyltoluene ( 7 ).
