Typification and application of the name Arctotis grandiflora Aiton (Asteraceae: Arctotideae)

Abstract: Background: Ongoing taxonomic studies in the African genus Arctotis (Asteraceae) necessitate periodic nomenclatural adjustments and corrections.Objectives: To evaluate the taxonomic status and application of the name Arctotis grandiflora Aiton.Methods: Type material and herbarium specimens were located and examined, relevant literature was consulted and wild populations were observed.Results: The type material of A. grandiflora Aiton comprises specimens of two taxa from independent gatherings.
