“…For each subsample, every male (or male abdomen) was removed and placed head down in melted clear paraffin wax, so that the genital capsule of the leafhopper was uppermost when the wax solidified. The aedeagus of each individual was examined under a binocular microscope and the species differentiated using the descriptions of Knight (1976). Traps from inside the orchard were subsampled in this way, but as there were fewer Typhlocyba spp.…”

Knight (1976a) synonymised E. ix and three New Zealand species with Zygina zealandica (Myers), which he noted was Australian in origin. The other Australian species listed by Evans (1966) in Erythroneura were transferred to Zygina by Day and Fletcher (1994).…”

“…Evans (1966) listed the New Zealand species of Zygina and recognised six species. The most recent revision of the New Zealand Typhlocybinae (Knight 1976a) synonymised all of Myers' (1923) species of Erythroneura under the single name Z. zealandica and added two new species to the genus which, together with E. toetoe and Z. dumbletoni, brought the number of species of Zygina in New Zealand to five. Knight (1976a) regarded four of these to be endemics with the fifth, Z. zealandica (Myers) being of Australian origin.…”
