Reexamination of the Ceratopogonidae described by Santos Abreu (1918) from the Canary Islands indicates that a number of his names are synonymous with each other, with other species named from the Canary Islands or with species described from elsewhere.Lectotypes are designated for all those species or varieties which were yet represented in the Santos Abreu collection. Numerous nomenclatorial changes are included in a table (including new synonyms). A number of the Santos Abreu namcs are considered n o r n i n a d u b i a and these are listed as well. Da~vheleu t:nnariensis (Santos Abreu) is a senior homonym of D. canariensis Stori (1936) which is renamed Dusyhelru storui. Dasyhelea luteoscutellata (Santos Abreu) is a senior homonym of Dasyhelea luteoscutellata Carter, Ingram & Macfie (192 1) which is renamed Dusyhelea galbiscutellata.Limited analysis indicates that Canary Island Ccratopogonidae have zoogeographic affinities with both the Palaearctic and Afrotropical Regions.
