Two‐years results of small‐incision lenticule extraction and wavefront‐guided laser in situ keratomileusis for Myopia

Abstract: Small-incision lenticule extraction offers better refractive outcomes than wavefront-guided LASIK during a 2-years follow-up for the correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism.

“…This finding is consistent with a prior retrospective case–control study by Kobashi et al. (), which found a regression of −0.10 and −0.23 D for SMILE and LASIK, respectively, from 3 months to 2 years, but no statistically significant difference between the groups ( n = 30 eyes in each group).…”

“…Sekundo et al [1] first introduced this new procedure in 2011. e first clinical study [2] of femtosecond lenticule extraction in China was also reported in 2011. Numerous clinical studies [3][4][5][6][7][8][9] suggested that SMILE is a safe and effective procedure for myopia correction, and the follow-up periods in these studies mostly spanned from 3 months to 3 years, but rarely up until 4 years [10][11][12][13][14]. In 2019, we [15] have previously compared the 5-year outcomes of SMILE and femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK (FS-LASIK) in patients with myopia.…”

“…The TIA and the SIA in the low astigmatic group were less than those in the high astigmatic group (p < 0.001). The CI and IOS [9] were also significantly lower in the low astigmatic group than in the high astigmatic group with p = 0.026. Figure 1 illustrated the UDVA postoperative in both groups.…”
