Two-way shape memory-clips for colonic anastomosis

Abstract: Abstract. The compression anastomosis clip (CAC) is an elliptic shape double-ring device produced from nickeltitanium shape memory alloy. Until now the CAC works basing on the one-way shape memory effect. The aim of presenting studies was finding out the technology of two-way shape memory (TWSME) clips formation which should fulfil the requirements for clinical application. The clips were formed by wires of an alloy with 51.02 at. % Ni balance Ti. The best value of the TWME and uniform compression force of the… Show more

“…One-way and two-way shape memory clips were applied in this experiment. In the authors' opinion, two-way shape memory clips offer a more practical solution because they open automatically, and do not require a device that will open the clip after it has been cooled in liquid nitrogen (Morawiec et al 2009). The clips were easily inserted, and additional finger pressure was applied to speed up locking.…”

“…Shape memory properties are associated with martensitic transformation, where the structure of the alloy changes during cooling and heating. Martensitic transformations are fully reversible and repeatable (Morawiec et al 2009). In medical and veterinary literature, numerous papers describe experiments performed on animal models, mainly pigs, with the use of compression anastomotic clips (Tucker et al 2008;Holak et al 2014).…”
