Two successful pregnancies following autotransplantation of frozen/thawed ovarian tissue

Abstract: Two additional healthy children have been born as a result of the ovarian cryopreservation procedure. In both cases, the ovarian tissue was transported 4-5 h prior to freezing demonstrating that hospitals may offer cryopreservation without having the necessary expertise locally.

“…Similarly, analysis of tumors, TNM classification and tumor characteristics (receptors and proliferation index) did not suggest any correlation between an aggressive tumor and positive qPCR results in the ovary. Nevertheless, some teams allow transplantation of frozen-thawed ovarian tissue from patients with early-stage breast cancer [2,23,33,37]. However, while most breast cancer recurrences manifest within 10 years of the initial diagnosis, the disease can recur much later, emphasizing the need for long-term surveillance in clinical follow-up of these patients [7].…”

“…Thus, favorable result of cryopreservation in 2M DMSO was shown when DMSO and propanediol of various concentrations were compared [37]. Live births after human ovarian cortex cryopreservation and autotransplantation have been reported with either DMSO [38] or ethylene glycol [39] as CPA.…”

“…One ovary was excised prior to gonadotoxic treatment and the cortical tissue was prepared and cryopreserved as previously described [12,13]. The indications for fertility preservation were breast cancer (n = 20), Hodgkin lymphoma (n = 2), nonHodgkin lymphoma (n = 2), cervix cancer (n = 4), sarcoma (n = 3), hematological disease (n = 3), and autoimmune disease (n = 1) and Premature menopause (n = 1) (Supplementary Table 1).…”
