Two-step transfer function calculation method and asymmetrical piecewise-linear vibration isolator under gravity

Abstract: Piecewise-linear isolators are widely used in spacecraft for satisfying ever more stringent vibration requirements of high precision payloads. This paper focuses on ground tests of such isolators, with special consideration of gravitational asymmetry and mount flexibility. With asymmetrical equivalent isolator parameters derived with the extended equivalent linearization method, a two-step transfer function calculation method is proposed for enhancing the computation efficiency in dealing with studies where hu… Show more

“…The former can reduce axial support stiffness, while the latter can reduce the peak disturbance value. Wang and Zheng [159] proposed a transfer function method with two steps to improve the efficiency of parameter optimization design. Kown et al [160] braided a superelastic shape-memory alloy wire into an annular structure for axial vibration isolation of RWAs.…”

“…(10) needs to be solved iteratively [8,[25][26][27][28][29][30] or inversely [31] to obtain the responses sincek eq f is dependent on the responses X 2 , although it can be written in a form of 'linear' transfer function. After solving Eq.…”

“…Similar to Eqs. (10), (32) is also a nonlinear equation that needs to be solved iteratively [30] or inversely [31] due to its inherent nonlinear feature. After solving it, the displacement transmissibility can be obtained by…”

“…An inverse solution technique is proposed and currently it could be applied to the primary harmonic solutions of multiple degree-of-freedom (MODF) structures with one local nonlinear component, which has wide applications such as nonlinear isolator [29][30][31][32] or nonlinear damper [22], nonlinear vibration absorber or nonlinear energy sink [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]21,33], joint [23,24], clearance element [34] and delayed feedback control of nonlinear structures [35]. In these systems, the primary structure usually has many DOFs, while the number of nonlinear element is only one.…”
