Two-step diffusion treatment of aluminium-coated TiAl-based alloy

Abstract: Aluminising of thermal sprayed TiAl-based alloys (49.1 at-% Al) was conducted by a two-step diffusion treatment at 7008C and 11008C. The coating morphology is strongly dependent on the diffusion temperature; a poreless and thicker TiAl 3 layer is obtained at a temperature of 7008C, while the intermediate layer predominantly grows at a temperature of 11008C. In addition, the second diffusion treatment at 11008C can also decrease the overall pore volume in the TiAl 3 layer. In a cyclic oxidation test at 9008C in… Show more

“…γ-TiAl alloys are widely used in aero engines and automotive components due to the outstanding creep properties (more than 900 °C), high melting point which is more than 1450 °C, and the preeminent specific modulus that is around 160 GPa to 180 GPa [1]. However, γ-TiAl alloys are limited to apply in industry because of inadequate oxidation resistance [2][3][4][5][6] . Therefore, a lot of researches were carried out to enhance the property of oxidation resistance.…”

“…Several researchers have prepared aluminide coatings on -TiAl alloy [6,[30][31][32][33]. The Si-modified aluminide coatings are also prepared on -TiAl alloys by pack cementation method to form titanium silicide layers on them.…”
