Due to global environmental concerns, many efforts have been made to prepare environmentally friendly and biodegradable materials .This study investigated the effectiveness of natural chitosan extracted from cockroaches as corrosion inhibitors for zinc epoxy paints on carbon steel in harsh environment. chitosan was extracted from shells of cockroaches using a simple and cost-effective method, and two types of industrial chitosan were purchased from a commercial source for comparison. Different concentrations of each chitosan were added to zinc-rich epoxy paints, which were applied on carbon steel samples and exposed to desulfovibrio in a culture medium. The corrosion behavior was evaluated using potentiodynamic polarization test, and the SEM and XRD analysis provided further insights into the morphology and chemical compositions of the coatings. The results demonstrate the potential of natural chitosan extracted from cockroaches as an effective corrosion inhibitor for zinc epoxy paints on carbon steel in corrosive environments, specifically against desulfovibrio, and highlight natural chitosan's superiority over industrial chitosan for this application.

Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles and heat treatment on the wear resistance of Ni-W/Al 2 O 3 coatings. The wear resistance of as-deposited Ni-W/Al 2 O 3 coatings is obviously improved by incorporation of Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles, which can strongly alleviate the serious plowing during the sliding abrasion. By heat treatment at 300 °C, microhardness and wear resistance of Ni-W/Al 2 O 3 are simultaneously improved. For the Ni-W/Al 2 O 3 coatings heat treated at 700 °C, the grain size increases while the microhardness is barely changed in comparison with the as-deposited coatings, and the wear resistance is improved with low Al 2 O 3 content but degraded at high Al 2 O 3 content. The evolution of wear resistance of Ni-W/Al 2 O 3 coatings can be related to microhardness, incorporation of Al 2 O 3 , precipitation strengthening and interphase interfaces.

For the purpose of improving the wear properties of Ni composite coatings, diamond particles were co-electrodeposited into Ni–diamond composite coatings. The effect of diamond particle concentration in the electrolyte on the surface morphology, microstructure, and wear properties of Ni–diamond composite coatings was investigated. The electrodeposition behaviors of the composite coatings were simulated by COMSOL5.6. The results showed that the content of diamond particles in the coating was elevated by increasing the particle concentration in the electrolyte. The formation of [200] fiber texture was blocked and concurrently brought about crystallite refinement of the Ni deposits by the embedded particles. The COMSOL simulation findings indicated that embedded particles influenced the microstructure of the Ni deposits through processes such as heterogeneous nucleation, rearrangement, and concentration of local current density. The synergistic effect of the tailored microstructure and embedded particles substantially enhanced the wear resistance of the coating. By increasing the particle concentration in the electrolyte, the wear resistance of the coating was gradually enhanced, and the coating electrodeposited at 16 g/L possessed the lowest friction coefficient and the smallest profile of wear scratch owning to the strengthened synergistic effect.
