Two-Stage Converter Standalone PV-Battery System Based on VSG Control

Abstract: Standalone solar PV systems have emerged as potential alternatives to electricity problems in areas where a grid is unavailable. Obtaining full power from a photoelectric system, DC-DC inverter, DC-AC converter, and control system presents great difficulties when building these devices. A standalone twostage approach is introduced in this work with a boost converter followed by an inverter and a battery with a bidirectional converter. In this paper, a novel virtual synchronous generator (VSG) controller is des… Show more

“…The control algorithm for the VSG comprises active-frequency control and reactive-voltage control [ 24 , 25 ], and it can be expressed as follows: where P m and P e represent the mechanical and electromagnetic power of the VSG, respectively, while w and w ref denote the angular frequency of the VSG and the grid angular frequency, respectively. J and D represent the rotational inertia and damping coefficient of the VSG, respectively, and Q ref and Q o correspond to the reactive power reference and reactive power measured values, respectively.…”

“…Thus, there are many types of virtual inertia control algorithms, depending on the control objectives. To control a PV system operating in stand-alone mode, a control strategy is introduced to match the PV output and the load, which can maintain the response of the PV system and prevent the output from collapsing [8,9]. The dynamic and static characteristics of synchronous generators are used in design the virtual inertia control for improving the power quality of grid-connected systems [10,11].…”

“…However, their installation costs are relatively high. In contrast, the standalone solar power system market has witnessed a significant growth in recent years [6,7]. Several factors can be attributed to this growth: Firstly, the efforts of governments across the globe to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate employed for the inverter to improve power harmonic content and reduce the size of the low-pass filter (LPF).…”
