Two Stable 3D Metal−Organic Frameworks Constructed by Nanoscale Cages via Sharing the Single-Layer Walls

Abstract: Two stable 3D metal-organic frameworks are constructed by the hydrothermal reactions of Cd(NO3)2.4H2O and IDC3- using bpy and Bu4NBr as templates. Both structures show the same frameworks, which are composed by the nanoscale cages via sharing the single-layer walls.

“…The 3D framework of 1 is assembled by the unique nano‐sized [Cu 30 ] cages ( Figure 1 b), which are constructed from 15 Cu 2 (O 2 CR) 4 paddlewheel units and BCP linkers. The shape of [Cu 30 ] cage looks like a distorted censer (Figure S1, Supporting Information), which is distinctive to the reported polyhedral/spherical cages in classic MOFs, for instance, eight [Zn 4 O] units as vertexes construct a cubic cage in MOF‐5, 24 Zn atoms and 48 methylimidazole linkers form a spherical cage in ZIF‐8, etc 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. Each [Cu 30 ] cage can be divided into two subcages, big cage A and small cage B (Figure 1b) to describe in details.…”

“…Over the past few years, extensive investigation has focused on the construction of coordination polymers using 4,5-imidazoledicarboxylic acid and derivatives as bridges of interest [1][2][3][4]. Recently, our group also reported five coordination polymers with 2-methyl-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid (H 3 MIA) ligand [5][6][7][8][9].…”

“…Structures containing metals and N-heterocyclic carboxylic acids have attracted much attention as they can function as a multidentate ligand, exhibit diverse structural type and can be potentially used as functional materials [3][4][5][6]. Recently, we still focused on the construction of MOFs and its activities using imidazole carboxylate and substituted imidazole carboxylate as the bridges [7][8][9][10][11].…”
