We report a development of probabilistic framework for parameter inference of cryogenic twophase flow based on fast two-fluid solver. We introduce a concise set of cryogenic correlations and discuss its parameterization. We present results of application of proposed approach to the analysis of cryogenic chilldoown in horizontal transfer line. We demonstrate simultaneous optimization of large number of model parameters obtained using global optimization algorithms. It is shown that the proposed approach allows accurate predictions of experimental data obtained both with saturated and sub-cooled liquid nitrogen flow. We discuss extension of predictive capabilities of the model to practical full scale systems.

Vitrification‐based cryopreservation is a promising approach to achieving long‐term storage of biological systems for maintaining biodiversity, healthcare, and sustainable food production. Using the “cryomesh” system achieves rapid cooling and rewarming of biomaterials, but further improvement in cooling rates is needed to increase biosystem viability and the ability to cryopreserve new biosystems. Improved cooling rates and viability are possible by enabling conductive cooling through cryomesh. Conduction‐dominated cryomesh improves cooling rates from twofold to tenfold (i.e., 0.24 to 1.2 × 105 °C min−1) in a variety of biosystems. Higher thermal conductivity, smaller mesh wire diameter and pore size, and minimizing the nitrogen vapor barrier (e.g., vertical plunging in liquid nitrogen) are key parameters to achieving improved vitrification. Conduction‐dominated cryomesh successfully vitrifies coral larvae, Drosophila embryos, and zebrafish embryos with improved outcomes. Not only a theoretical foundation for improved vitrification in µm to mm biosystems but also the capability to scale up for biorepositories and/or agricultural, aquaculture, or scientific use are demonstrated.

Conventional fluids used in fission‐based water‐cooled nuclear reactors have lower heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) and thermal conductivity, which has led researchers to explore high‐performance fluids that can enhance heat transfer in routine operation and prevent core meltdown in the case of accidents. It is important to investigate a wide range of fluids that can help designers improve thermal hydraulic characteristics, such as HTC, critical heat flux, and minimum departure from nucleate boiling ratio (MDNBR). In this study, the effectiveness of nanofluids in enhancing heat transfer parameters, including thermal conductivity and heat capacity, was investigated. Four different nanofluids (Al2O3–H2O, ZrO2–H2O, Ag–H2O, and Si–H2O) with pure water as the primary coolant in an HPR‐1000 nuclear reactor were compared using computational methods. Due to computational limitations, only the flow channel among four fuel rods with the highest power density in the core was simulated using Eulerian computational fluid dynamics. The results of this study show that silver water (Ag–H2O) nanofluid outperformed other nanofluids and pure water. It had a higher average HTC and MDNBR, with a 67.15 % and 45.23 % improvement, respectively, compared to pure water. The fuel rod wall temperature was also reduced by 28.5 K with Ag–H2O compared to water. Comparison of current simulated results with literature data shows a good agreement.
