“…Thus further biological studies will be needed on these two active compounds for the discovery of diabetic complications preventive agents. In addition, these biological data as well as our previous studies (Lee et al, , 2009) on this species supported that the flower buds of M. fargesii would be considered as good medicinal source for diabetic complications. 72.87 ± 12.40 a All opacities were analyzed from each lens.…”

“…Previous studies revealed that this medicinal source contains several phytochemicals such as lignans, neolignans, sesquiterpenes, and essential oils, which display the biological activities such as anti-platelet-activating factor (PAF), anti-TNFα, and calcium antagonism (Pan et al, 1987;Chen et al, 1988;Chae et al, 1998;Jung et al, 1998;Cho et al, 1999). In our previous study, we have reported several lignans and neolignans with diabetic complications-associated biological activities including superoxide radical scavenging and aldose reductase inhibitory (Lee et al, , 2009. In this study, five known compounds (1-5) of various structural types were further isolated from the flower buds of M. fargesii in our continuous research to discover preventive agents for diabetic complications from herbal medicines.…”

“…Its volatile oil has also been processed into all kinds of cosmetics which are widely used in China [4]. It has been reported to possess extensive anti-allergy [5,6], anti-inflammatory [7], anti-angiogenic [8], anti-platelet aggregation [9,10], antimicrobial [11] and antioxidant activities [12,13]. Several types of compounds have been isolated from the plant, including lignans [9], neolignans [9], sesquiterpenoids [14], alkaloids [15,16], and flavonoids [15,16].…”
