C. gymnorhinus has been reported off the Bahamas, Columbia, Florida Keys, Hispaniola, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico and Tobago (Gutherz and Blackman, 1970), and on the Florida Shelf, off Cuba, Guyana, Venezuela, and the Virgin Islands (Topp and Hoff, 1972).
